· India and the United States have agreed in principle to share military logistics.
· Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced this agreement at a joint press conference with US Defense secretary Ashton Carter.

· Union Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu inaugurates fitment of CCTV in Shan-E-Punjab Express (Amritstar-New Delhi) through Video-Conferencing.

Government activates Aadhaar based IT appeal e-filing:
· Income Tax department has activated the Aadhaar and net banking-based e-filing verification system for taxpayers to file the first appeal before a tax officer, on similar lines of online ITR filing.
· The Electronic Verification Code (EVC) works by way of generating a personalised OTP by using the Aadhaar database or the net banking identity of a filer or entity.
· The IT department has four stages of appeal mechanism for the assessees to put forth their grievance beginning with the Commissioner of IT (Appeals), the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), the High Court and finally the Supreme Court.
World bamboo conference: Government Of India to promote bamboo cultivation:
· The Union government is taking necessary actions to fill up the gap between supply and demand for bamboo in view of “tremendous demand” for it in the national and international markets, said Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Singh at the World Bamboo Conference in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
· The Government has planned to encourage bamboo cultivation in the country through various measures, including plantation of its saplings along the national highways and using it in the construction of toilets.
Government to launch cow survey in state:
· To ensure proper care of cows, the animal husbandry department will launch a massive survey to count the number of cows which are staying with their owners and the ‘stray’ ones.
· The survey is aimed at discouraging people from abandoning cows.
· Rajasthan is the first state which has a separate ministry dedicated to the welfare of cows.
· The state government will also develop a sanctuary for cows in each of its seven divisions.
Golden Tobacco Ltd became first company in India to implement 85% pictorial health warnings:
· Golden Tobacco Ltd. in April 2016 became the first company in India to implement the Union Health Ministry’s Cigarettes Packaging Amendment Rules, 2014.
· As per it, both sides of the cigarette packs shall display specific health warnings in 85 percent of the area as against the present 40 percent.
· Now, the packets of several brands of the company, namely Brands Panama and Golden Gold Flake, manufactured from 1 April 2016 will carry larger images.
Maharashtra Legislative Assembly passed Dance Bar Bill 2016:
· The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on 12 April 2016 unanimously passed the Dance Bar Regulation Bill 2016.
· The bill has provisions for stringent actions against the violators.
· State Legislative Council cleared the Bill on 11 April 2016 which paved the way for reopening of the dance bars.
· Maharastra State Home Minister Ram Shinde tabled the Bill in the Assembly and it was passed unanimously without debate.

India, US agree for logistics exchange to enhance military cooperation:
· India and the US have agreed “in principle” to a logistics exchange agreement to enable both militaries to use each other’s assets and bases for repair and replenishment of supplies, an issue which did not find favour with the previous UPA government.
· Ramping up bilateral defence ties, both sides agreed to set up a new bilateral Maritime Security Dialogue between officials from their respective defence and foreign affairs ministries.
· This came as India and the US emphasised on freedom of navigation and need for international based order, in an apparent reference to China’s assertiveness in South China Sea.

· India and the US have identified two new “pathfinder” projects under the Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI) for the joint production of a helmet-mounted digital display and a biological tactical detection system.

Japan to get world's first invisible train:
· Japan-based conglomerate Seibu Railway is working to develop world's first virtually invisible train by 2018.
· It is being designed by architect Kazuyo Sejima, who recently won the Pritzker Prize.
· The train will blend into its surroundings by reflecting them off its mirrored surface. It will cover over 178 km throughout Japan.

· The Corporate Affair Ministry has exempted housing finance companies from filing financial statements in XBRL format. Banking, insurance, power sector and non-banking finance companies are already exempted.

Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) settles 1.18 crore claims in 2015-16:
· The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) settled 1.18 crore claims including provident fund withdrawals in 2015-16, the retirement fund body said in a statement.
· While 96% of these claims were settled within the stipulated time of 20 days, 79% were resolved within 10 days, it added. Further, over 2.2 lakh grievances were addressed by EPFO during the fiscal.

India to notch up to 7.5 pc growth in 2016-17: IMF
· Retaining its 7.5 per cent GDP expansion forecast for India in 2016 and 2017, IMF asked the government to cut down subsidies, initiate labour reforms and dismantle infrastructure bottlenecks to sustain strong growth.
· In its World Economic Outlook, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said India should continue fiscal consolidation, underpinned by revenue reforms and further reduction in subsidies.
· In 2015, India’s growth was 7.3 per cent, which would increase to 7.5 per cent in the next two years of 2016 and 2017, IMF had earlier forecast.
· Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has agreed to buy a controlling stake in Southeast Asian online retailer Lazada for $1 billion.
· Alibaba will buy $500 million of newly issued Lazada shares and the rest will be bought from current shareholders. This is Alibaba’s biggest overseas deal.

TCS tops in building toilets under government scheme:
· Software services major TCS and vehicle maker Mahindra Group topped the list of private corporates involved in constructing toilets in schools under the government's Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, according to government body National Sample Survey Office.
· TCS and Mahindra constructed 1,509 and 1,171 toilets respectively, together accounting for around 80% of such toilets built by private corporates.

Facebook launches bot platform for Messenger:
· At the F8 developer conference, Facebook announced a bot platform that allows developers to build chatbots for Messenger.
· A Messenger bot has the ability to perform actions like sending links, showing images and providing detailed descriptions of products and services.
· The company also announced that it has opened up its live streaming API for developers.
· Facebook Messenger has added Dropbox support, allowing users to share Dropbox files directly in their Messenger conversations.
· This is the first time Messenger has partnered with a cloud-based file sharing service.
· While photos and videos will appear instantly in-chat, non-visual files will be linked to the Dropbox mobile app. This will prevent Facebook from hosting PowerPoints and PDFs.
New Google app allows voice-control over devices:
· Google has announced the beta launch of Voice Access, an app that allows people to use speech recognition to control Android devices.
· Users can say ‘open Chrome’ or ‘go home’ to navigate around the phone, or interact with the screen by saying ‘click next’ or ‘scroll down'. The app has been designed keeping in mind people with disabilities like paralysis.

iii. The report which measures the progress of 50 nations in investment and deployment of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

v. The report says the initiative will enable last mile connectivity, bringing many people online for the first time, and enables a whole new opportunity for telecom operators.
4. Cabinet announces Mufti Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme to supplement NFSA
i. State Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti approved some major initiatives as a part of the Government’s response to the marginalized, disadvantaged and other sections of the society.
ii. In a major welfare initiative, the Cabinet approved launch of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES) to supplement the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
iii. Under this scheme, all those persons who are covered under the State’s public distribution system will get additional 5 kgs of ration per person in addition to 5 kgs of ration they are entitled to get under NFSA.
iv. The additional quota of ration under the scheme would be provided to the consumers at the subsidized rate of Rs 13 per kg for Atta and Rs 15 per kg for Rice and the State Government will bear the financial burden of Rs 1497 crore per annum for the implementation of NFSA and MMSFES.
v. The quantum of additional food grains would be 5 Kg per soul subject to a maximum ceiling of 35 Kg per family.

i. Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and German International Cooperation (GIZ) signed an Implementation agreement for Ganga Rejuvenation under the Namami Gange Programme in New Delhi.
ii. The agreement was signed in the presence of the German Ambassador to India, Dr. Martin Ney and Secretary, Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Shashi Shekhar.
iii. The project will closely cooperate with other National and international initiatives including Indo-German bilateral projects like Support to National Urban Sanitation Policy (SNUSP) and Sustainable Environment-friendly Industrial Production (SEIP).
iv. The project duration is three years that is from 2016 to 2018 and the German contribution in the project will be to the tune of 22.5 crore rupees.
v. It will enable responsibility of stakeholders at National and State level to apply integrated river basin management approach for the rejuvenation of the river Ganga.

i. Haryana Government has decided to rename Gurgaon as Gurugram and Mewat as Nuh.

i. Former Indian woman biker Veenu Paliwal has died in a road accident in Vidisha district, Madhya Pradesh. She was 44 year old.

1. Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and German International Cooperation (GIZ) on signed an Implementation agreement for Ganga Rejuvenation under the Namami Gange Programme in New Delhi.
2. The agreement was signed in the presence of the German Ambassador to India, Dr. Martin Ney and Secretary, Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Shashi Shekhar.

5. Union Cabinet approves MoU between India, UAE to check human trafficking
1. The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and United Arab Emirates (UAE) on cooperation in preventing and combating of Human Trafficking.
2. The MoU will increase the bilateral cooperation on the issues of prevention, recovery, rescue and repatriation related to human trafficking especially of women and children expeditiously.
3. Strengthen cooperation to prevent all forms of human trafficking, especially that of women and children. Ensure speedy investigation and prosecution of traffickers and organized crime syndicates in either country. Taking preventive measures in order to eliminate human trafficking and for protecting the rights of trafficked victims. Anti-trafficking Task Forces and Cells will work to prevent human trafficking on both sides.
6. Haryana Government decides to rename Gurgaon as Gurugram
1. Haryana Government has decided to rename Gurgaon as Gurugram. State government also has renamed Mewat as Nuh. In this regard, Chief Minister Manohar Lal has approved the proposal to change the names of Gurgaon and Mewat.
2. Decision to change the name of Gurgaon has been taken on the basis of the representations received at several forums. Since ancient times, Gurgaon had been a centre of learning where the princes used to get education and known as Gurugram since the times of Guru Dronacharya.
