NATIONAL:
International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2016 observed:
· April 6: International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
· The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) 2016 was observed across the world on 6 April 2016.
· On the occasion of the IDSDP 2016, the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) launched a campaign Let’s play for Sustainable Development Goals.
· The campaign seeks to encourage organisations and individuals who carry out SDP initiatives to take a picture or a short video of their team or beneficiaries with a SDG card that best describes their activity.
Telangana unveils new ICT Policy 2016:
· The government of Telangana has unveiled a new ICT policy along with four other policies to support innovation, gaming and animation, rural tech centres and growth of electronics aimed at attracting investments while facilitating job creation.
· The Policy is proposed to transform Telangana into the most preferred destination for any IT company which is planning a new facility and enable it to make it a global hub for technology entrepreneurship and innovation in the country.
· The Policy seeks to attract $3 billion investment to the State and create about 6 lakh jobs.
MTDC to launch budget rates to promote tourism:
· Maharashtra Tourism Development Commission (MTDC) has launched a new range of budget holiday packages to increase tourist footfall to the state.
· The initiative will include a 25% discount on bookings for domestic tourists from outside Maharashtra and a 20% discount on bookings for senior citizens.
· NRIs and students can also avail the discounts when booking through MTDC.
Government allows culling of monkeys in Shimla:
· The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has declared the rhesus monkey as vermin in Shimla, giving the municipal corporation authority to shoot down the animals outside the forest areas.
· The permission to cull the monkeys will be valid for six months. Animal rights activists have filed a complaint against the ministry under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Thane gets toll free number over water crisis:
· Due to water scarcity in the Thane district of Mumbai, the authorities have set up a 24x7 control room and a toll-free number 1077 to register complaints against the misuse or commercialisation of water.
· Earlier, authorities imposed section 144 of CrPC in the water-scarce Latur and Parbhani districts to prevent violence among people over water distribution.
Madhukar Gupta committee constituted to suggest ways to strengthen security alongIndo-Pak border:
· The Union Government constituted a high-level committee to suggest ways to strengthen the border protection along the border with Pakistan.
· It will also address the issue of gaps and vulnerability in border fencing along Indo-Pakistan border.
· The committee will be headed by former Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta and will submit its report in three months.
Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched Transnational Skill Standards:
· The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Pratap Rudy launched Transnational Skill Standards in New Delhi.
· On this occasion, 2 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between National Skill Development Council (NSDC) and Association of Colleges (UK) and NSDC and UK Awarding Organization City & Guilds and Pearsons Education.
India fourth country with highest Downadup malware attacks:
· India is the fourth country that has most number of attacks by the Downadup malware family, a report by Finland-based online security and privacy company F-Secure, said.
· In 2015, Downadup was the most frequently detected type of malware in computers in Finland, France and Germany. India is the fourth on the list while Italy and Norway follow the suit.
· Downadup is a computer worm that infects unpatched Windows machines (including various versions of Windows Server) and then invades exposed networks attached to infected devices.
Union Minister Gangwar inaugurates three mega projects in Nagaland:
· Union Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar inaugurated the Apparel and Garment making Centre at District Industries Centre Complex in Dimapur, Nagaland.
· Apparel and Garment Making Centre for Nagaland was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1st of December 2014 during his visit to the Nagaland.
· Mr Gangwar also laid the foundation stone for Muga P3 Basic Seed Station Kobulong in Mokokchung district and also launched the newly approved Integrated Eri Silk Development Project under NERTPS for women empowerment and sustainable livelihood in Kohima district.

OneRyder launches bike taxi service in Delhi:
· OneRyder launched its ride-sharing service and said it plans to expand to the NCR in the next six months.
· All rides of OneRyder will originate from Delhi and commuters can be dropped up to 15 kms from the borders of the city.

ECoR becomes largest freight loading railway zone:
· The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has once again achieved a record in revenue loading performance and placed itself as the largest Freight Loading Railway Zone in 2015-16.
· During 2015-16, the East Coast Railway loaded 173.49 million tonnes of freight as compared to 161.91 during the last year, registering a 7.1 % growth.
INTERNATIONAL:
UN Agencies publicized “Global Report on Urban Health”:
· A report titled Global report on urban health: equitable, healthier cities for sustainable development, 2016 has been released by World Health Organisation (WHO) in collaboration with United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) showing the health in equities between the richest and poorest urban populations.
· It compared data on health from urban areas of 100 countries.
· The report was led and written by the WHO Centre for Health Development in Kobe,Japan.
Dubai to deploy drones to catch people littering:
· The Waste Management Department of the Dubai Municipality has confirmed that it plans to deploy unmanned aerial vehicles to police the city's litterers.
· The drones will monitor beaches, desert and waste dump sites for sanitation law violators.
· Currently, only one drone is in operation, with two additional drones to be added later in the year.
Iceland's PM resigns over Panama Papers row:
· Iceland Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson resigned over allegations of his offshore dealings that were revealed in the leaked "Panama Papers".
· Gunnlaugsson had refused to resign after the leaked documents revealed that he bought an offshore company

American becomes Japan's 1st paid foreign ninja:
· Tokyo-based American Chris O’Neill, has become Japan's first paid foreign ninja, after being included in the seven-man ninja squad by a local tourism body in Central Japan, to promote the ninja heritage.
· A total of 235 ninja hopefuls, hailing from different parts of Japan, participated in the process. Notably, the ninjas will only be participating in tourism promotional activities.
Myanmar Parliament approved Bill to grant PM-like role to Aung San Suu Kyi:
· Myanmar's (Burmese) Parliament in Naypyidaw passed a bill that gives Aung San Suu Kyi a role similar to that of Prime Minister.
· The Lower House passed the bill to create the post of state counsellor, which now requires only presidential approval to become law.
· Earlier, the bill has gone through the Upper House and now will be sent to the President Htin Kyaw for the approval.
US Senate unanimously approves Defend Trade Secrets Bill:
· The US Senate approved Defend Trade Secrets Bill. The legislation provides greater legal protection to companies for their commercial secrets. It was passed by 87-0, amid strong White House backing.
· Now the bill will be sent for approval to the House of Representatives.
China bans most imports of North Korean goods over nuclear, missile tests:
· China banned most imports of North Korean coal and iron ore, the country’s main exports, in a significant increase in pressure on the North under UN sanctions against its nuclear and missile tests.
· China buys an estimated two-thirds of impoverished North Korea’s exports, making Beijing’s co-operation essential for trade penalties approved by the UN Security Council last month to succeed.
· North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has intensified nuclear activities in defiance of UN sanctions, conducting his country’s fourth nuclear test explosion in January and test-firing missiles.
UN chief praises Indian peacekeepers’ commitment, discipline:
· Army Chief General Dalbir Singh met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moonrecently.
· Mr Ban appreciated strong support of India to UN Peacekeeping, which is the second largest at 7,695 troops among all UN troop contributors.
Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz win Wisconsin presidential primaries:
· In US, Senator Bernie Sanders has scored a crucial victory over Hillary Clinton in the state of Wisconsin, throwing a road block in his Democratic rival’s march toward the party’s presidential nomination.
· Republican Ted Cruz also won the Wisconsin presidential primary, dealing a blow to front-runner Donald Trump’s hopes of amassing the delegates needed for the party’s nomination ahead of the July convention.

Patricia Scotland takes over as Commonwealth Secretary-General:
· Dominica’s Patricia Scotland has taken over as the first woman Secretary-General of the 53-member Commonwealth, succeeding India’s Kamalesh Sharma.
· The 60-year-old was welcomed at Commonwealth headquarters in Marlborough House, London.

SBI declares Chhagan Bhujbal, family members as willful defaulters:
· Senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal’s family members have been declared as wilful defaulter by the State Bank of India.
· A public notice has been issued for auction of Bhujbal family’s company Armstrong Energy Private Limited in Nashik. Names of Bhujbal’s nephew Samir Bhujbal and his son Pankaj Bhujbal are present as borrowers in the notice.

Ola introduce e-rickshaws on its platform:
· India’s smartest app based cab company Ola has introduced electric rickshaws on its platform.
· It was launched in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the ‘Start-up India’ event held in Noida.
· Aim To providing mobility to its users smaller towns and cities, a total of 5,100 Ola e-rickshaws will be launched in partnership with Bhartiya Micro Credit (BMC) and will be deployed across Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad.
· The first Ola e-rickshaw shall be booked on the Ola mobile application.
Snapdeal launches donation program 'Sunshine':
· Delhi-based online marketplace Snapdeal has launched Snapdeal Sunshine, a program that allows users to donate to the nine associated NGOs, who are in need of products.
· The nine associated NGOs include HelpAge India, Teach For India and Care India. After the donations get accepted, the donors would be able to track their donations which will be coming from Snapdeal's inventory.
HP unveils world's thinnest laptop:
· Hewlett-Packard (HP) unveiled the new Spectre 13 laptop.
· The notebook, which has been touted as the world's thinnest notebook, is 10.4 millimeters thick and weighs 1.1 kg.
· The notebook features a 13.3-inch Gorilla Glass screen, a 9.45 hour-long battery life and upto 8 GB of RAM. The cost of the Spectre 13 ranges from $1,170 to $1,250.
HAL posts highest yearly turnover at 16.5k cr:
· State-owned aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has reported a 5.8% year-on-year rise in turnover in 2015-16 to 16,524 crore, the highest ever so far.
· The company's profit for the fiscal rose marginally by 1.1% to 3,210 crore.
· Further, as part of the 'Make in India' initiative, indigenisation has resulted in foreign exchange savings of ₹126 crore, HAL said.
MCL emerges top coal producer in FY 2016:
· The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has become the number one coal producer in the country by producing a record 137.90 million tonne (MT) of coal in 2015-16, contributing 39 per cent to the growth of the Coal India Limited.

Jackie Chan gets wax statue in Jaipur:
· Actor and martial artist Jackie Chan on Tuesday got a wax statue at the Nahargarh Fort Museum in Jaipur.
· The statue, made by an Indian and a Chinese sculptor, was unveiled by Bollywood actor Sonu Sood.
· Notably, Sood and Chan will be seen together in the upcoming Indo-Chinese film 'Kung Fu Yoga'
Future Group acquires FabFurnish:
· Kishore Biyani-led Future Group acquired Rocket Internet-backed furniture startup FabFurnish.
· Future Group will reportedly pay 15-20 crore in cash to buy the company.
· This marks Future Group’s first acquisition of an e-commerce company and the first exit for Rocket Internet in India. Future Group will retain FabFurnish’s brand and will use it to take Home Town online.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
Google launches Android Auto in India:
· Google has launched Android Auto, its in-car operating system, in eighteen new countries, including India, making it the biggest international roll out for the service.
· Android Auto lets users connect their smartphones and control apps from their cars’ screens.
· The service is now available in 29 countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Panama, Russia, Switzerland and Venezuela, among others.
ISRO, NASA to jointly launch satellite to study earthquakes and their patterns:
· ISRO and NASA are jointly operated mission NISAR a satellite that helps studying earthquake and its patterns will be launched.
· The satellite is called NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, or NISAR and is designed to make observations and measurements of ecosystem disturbance, ice-sheet collapse, and natural hazards such as tsunami, volcanoes and landslides.
New planet with triple-star system found:
· The US Researchers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Centre for Astrophysics have discovered a rare triple-star system with a gas giant planet that is similar in size to Jupiter.
· In the new system KELT-4Ab, a gas giant planet, takes approximately three days to make its way around the star KELT-A, which serves as its sun.
· The other two stars, named KELT-B and C, are much farther away and orbit one another over the course of approximately 30 years.
WhatsApp rolls out full encryption for its users:
· Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp has fully implemented end-to-end encryption on its platform.
· End-to-end encryption means the content of communications is not stored in plaintext on WhatsApp's servers.
· Nor is the company able to decrypt users’ messages to access them since it does not hold the encryption keys. This comes after the recently ended controversy between the FBI and Apple
· Researchers from the University of Georgia and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) developed the world's smallest diode, the size of a single molecule.
· The breakthrough could impact the development of molecular electronic devices.
· Their study was published in journal Nature Chemistry on 4 April 2016.
Indian scientists developed eco-friendly nanotechnology for water purification:
· The Scientists team from the Institute of Advance Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati in Assam developed an eco-friendly nanotechnology for water-softening applications.
· The report was published online in the joural Nanoscale and the authors are Upama Baruah and Achyut Konwar of IASST.
SPORTS:
· Former Portugal captain, Luis Figo, is on a visit to India to launch the Indian edition of the Premier Futsal League.
· The 10-day tournament will feature five-a-side football matches between eight city-based franchise teams.
· Around 56 futsal players from around 21 countries will participate in the tournament, which begins from July 15 this year.
Asia’s biggest hockey tournament to celebrate its Silver Jubilee:
· Asia’s biggest hockey event, the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2016 will begin at Ipoh in Malaysia.
· Seven hockey nations from around the world are set to participate in the tournament.The tournament will also celebrate its silver jubilee. The annual event will conclude on 16th April.
· The 25th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup will witness India, Pakistan, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan battling it out for the prestigious title. The event will serve as a barometer to measure the team’s preparation for the Rio Olympics in August.
OBITUARY:
· Myneni Hari Prasad Rao, considered the Father or Architect of the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS), died in Chennai due to old age ailments. He was 88.
· In 1984, Rao was honoured with the Padma Shri. He was also awarded with the Sanjay Gandhi for contribution in Science and Technology in 1983.
