Mehbooba Mufti set to become first woman CM of J & K:
·         Mehbooba Mufti was elected Chief Minister of J & K, after clearing the decks for government formation in the state. This decision is taken in the legislature party meet Chaired by Mahbooba at her official residence in Gupka.
·         PDP legislature party leader set to become the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Andhra Pradesh inaugurates India’s first lift irrigation project:
·         Andhra government which is known for its innovations and use of technologies in various sectors has also become the first Indian state to implement lift irrigation.
·         Pattiseema lift irrigation project is known as the first river linking project in India.
·         It connects river Godavari with Krishna and the first pump of the project is completed in 1 year.
Cabinet approves Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana:
·         The Housing for all scheme has been approved by the cabinet, this scheme intends to provide houses for all people in the rural area.
·         Under this scheme, incentive will be given by the government to build Pucca house.
·         Financial assistance of 1,20,000 in plain areas and 1,30,000 in hill areas will be given to all houseless and people those who live in dilapidated houses.
Union Government notified E-Waste Management Rules, 2016:
·         The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change notified the E-Waste Management Rules, 2016.
·         The new set of rules will supersede the E-Waste (Management & Handling) Rules, 2011 and will pave the way for more transparent and environment friendly management of e-waste across the country.
BHEL commissioned 600 MW Jaipur Thermal Power Plant in Telangana:
·         Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced that it successfully commissioned a 600 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Telangana.
·         The unit was commissioned at the upcoming 2x600 MW Singareni Thermal Power Project (TPP) located at Jaipur in Adilabad district of Telangana.
·         The 1200 MW Jaipur Power Plant is being developed by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).
Election Commission okays PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ tomorrow:
·         The Election Commission has given its permission to the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio broadcast tomorrow with instructions that the programme should adhere to the Model Code of Conduct in force due to the Assembly polls in five states.
·         The Information and Broadcasting Ministry had approached the Commission to clear the broadcast of the monthly radio address due to the Model Code in place.
President Pranab Mukherjee greets Bangladesh on National Day:
·         President Pranab Mukherjee has extended his greetings and felicitations to Bangladesh on their National Day.
·         In his message to Bangladesh President Mohammed Abdul Hamid, Mr Mukherjee said, the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh have grown tremendously over the past few years.
Japanese firm selected to designs Amaravati Capital city:
·         In Andhra Pradesh, the jury members appointed for Amaravati capital design have selected the design submitted by Maki and Associates of Japan.
·         The jury members were from the country as well as from abroad.
PM Modi to address seven rallies in Assam:
·         Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a total of seven rallies in the poll-bound state of Assam. While five of these rallies will be held today, the remaining two are scheduled for Sunday.
·         BJP is contesting on 91 of 126 assembly constituencies in Assam, which will vote in two phases on April 4 and 11.
CBSE asks schools to frame mission statement:
·         The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its schools to frame a mission statement, containing their goals, and display it in the school premises by the first week of June.
·         This comes following a directive issued by the government to the board. The CBSE has also issued guidelines on preparing a mission statement.
Maharashtra gets 1st batch of women forest commandos:
·         A batch of 20 women forest guards in Maharashtra has completed their month-long commando training to become the state's first women forest commandos.
·         The 20 forest guards, in the 19-24 age group, were trained to set up an ambush, patrol in formations and carry out raids. They are posted in eight areas in the Maoist-affected Sironcha division.
Government starts survey to find new enemy properties:
·         The government has started a survey in five states to identify new enemy properties spread across the country, which were once owned by people who migrated to Pakistan after the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971.
·         The survey has begun in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. The Home Ministry has appointed 65 personnel for the task.
Odisha govt asks departments to use social media:
·         Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has asked all state departments to use social media to establish a two-way communication between the administration and citizens.
·         Patnaik said that as the government functions at multiple levels, websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube should be used to interact directly with the people. He also directed the departments to regularly upgrade their websites.
Government to create 2.5L Dalit entrepreneurs:
·         About 2.5 lakh SC/ST entrepreneurs would be created under the Centre's Stand Up India initiative, Union Minister for MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) Kalraj Mishra.
·         Bank branches would be encouraged to fund a SC/ST and woman entrepreneurs, he said at the inauguration of National Industrial & Trade Fair organised by Dalit Indian Chamber Commerce & Industry.

INTERNATIONAL:
Bangladesh celebrates its 45th Independence & National Day :
·         Bangladesh today celebrates its 45th Independence and National Day. People from all walks of life are paying rich tributes to the martyrs who laid down their life to win independence from Pakistan. 
·         On this day Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence from Pakistanfollowing a brutal military crackdown the previous night on hundreds of unarmed Bengalis, marking the beginning of the nine-month bloody Liberation War. 
·         The day's celebrations began with a 31 gun salute and placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar by President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
NATO’s chief to meet Barack Obama in April:
·         US President Barack Obama will meet NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg next month to discuss a range of issues including the progress made to “destroy” Islamic State terror outfit.
·         Obama will host Stoltenberg at the White House on April 4 and will reaffirm that the US stands together with NATO in the wake of the horrific terrorist attacks that struck Brussels, Belgium.
India to appeal WTO verdict in solar case filed by the U.S.:
·         The government said India will appeal against the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) verdict over its policy relating to solar power equipment.
·         The U.S. made it a prestige issue. It is very unfortunate that they pursued the complaint in the WTO.

India now holds US govt securities worth $119 bn:
·         According to data released by the US Treasury Department, India’s overall holding in US government securities climbed to $119.8 billion in January.
·         In January alone, India bought American government securities to the tune of $3 billion.
·         The countries whose exposure was more than India in January, include Ireland ($252.2 billion), Switzerland ($237.4 billion) and Hong Kong ($201.6 billion).
US school removes 'namaste' from yoga curriculum:
·         A US school has removed the Sanskrit greeting 'namaste' and coloring pages with the symbol of the 'Mandala', which represents the cosmos, from their curriculum of yoga and other mindfulness practices.
·         The move was owing to parents reportedly complaining that yoga was propagating non-Christian beliefs. Notably, US public schools are banned from conducting religious practices including prayers.
India, China led investments in renewable energy in 2015: UN report
·         India and China led the developing countries in investments made in renewable energy in 2015, a UN-backed report has said.
·         The report on 'Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment' by the UN Environment Programme said the developing world committed a total of 156 billion dollars in new renewables capacity last year, up 19 per cent on 2014 figures.

APPOINTMENTS:
Tata Steel Europe CEO to quit:
·         Tata Steel Ltd said its Europe unit’s chief executive, Karl Koehler, is stepping down to take up a senior leadership position with a large, privately owned industrial company in Germany.
·         Koehler would be replaced by Hans Fischer, chief technical officer at Tata Steel Europe, effective March 1.Koehler, who will also resign from the Tata Steel board, will remain available to Tata Steel for a short period in an advisory capacity.

BANKING :
Oriental Bank of Commerce cuts interest rates on deposits under 1 Crore:
·         State-owned lender Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC)  said that it has cut interest rates for deposits less than 1 crore across various maturity periods in a range of 0.25-0.5% with effect from March 28.
·         This comes against the backdrop of the government's recent interest rate cut on small savings schemes and RBI's upcoming monetary policy meet in April.
IOB starts distribution of Indian Gold Coins:
·         State-owned Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has become the country's first lender to start the distribution of the government's Indian Gold Coins.
·         Available in the denominations of 5, 10 and 20 grams, the coin, bearing the national emblem of Ashok Chakra on one side and Mahatma Gandhi's face on the other, was launched by PM Narendra Modi in November 2015.

BUSINESS AND ECONOMY:
Jeff Bezos tops Fortune's Greatest Leaders list:
·         Amazon Founder and CEO, 52-year-old Jeff Bezos, has topped Fortune magazine's 'World's Greatest Leaders' list, followed by German Chancellor Angel Merkel and Burmese stateswoman Aung San Suu Kyi.
·         Amazon's market value is $260 billion, with Bezos’ stake worth $46 billion. Bezos has also founded Blue Origin, an aerospace developing and manufacturing company, funded by him.
US extends BMW deadline to get replacement air bag inflators:
·         BMW AG will get five more months to acquire Takata air bag replacement parts for a massive recall because tests showed some of the substitute inflators may also be defective.
·         The deadline for the German automaker was extended to Aug. 31 because a replacement driver-side air bag inflator made by a supplier other than Takata failed during testing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Hyundai to recall 597 vehicles over faulty wipers in China:
·         Hyundai Motor will recall 597 vehicles with faulty wipers that may obstruct the view of drivers and cause accidents.
·         The recall will involve imported Equus models produced between July 10, 2011 and June 12, 2012 and imported Rohens sedans produced between August 1, 2011 and April 30, 2012, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
Askme Group to help arrange Rs 1000 of loans for 10,000 SMEs :
·         The Askme Group will help arrange Rs 1,000 crore of loans for 10,000 online and offline small and medium enterprises that are listed on its platforms and directories by the end of financial year 2017.
·         The finance arm of the group, Askme Fin, has tied up with non-bank finance companies, banks and online lending partners, including Mahindra Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Capital Float, Religare, SME Bank.in, Mandii.com and ICICI Bank for this.
Yokohama Rubber Co to buy Alliance Tire Group for $1.2 billion :
·         Yokohama Rubber Co has agreed to buy out Alliance Tire Group (ATG), controlled by US private equity giant KKR, for about $1.2 billion in one of the biggest private equity exits from an India-focused investment and one of the largest strategic investments so far this year.
·         The Japanese firm will acquire the 90% stake held by KKR and 10% of the Mahansaria family. The acquisition is expected to be concluded on July 1, 2016.
Snapchat buys Bitstrips for $100 million: Report
·         Snapchat has reportedly bought instant comic maker Bitstrips for $100 million cash and stock deal.
·         Founded in 2007, Bitstrips is best known for its Bitmoji app, which lets users create an avatar of themselves to share on social media and over text.
·         Snapchat recently raised $175 million in fresh funding from Fidelity Investments, valuing the messaging app at $16 billion.
ArcelorMittal to sell two steel plants in US:
·         World's largest steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal said it has entered a definitive transaction agreement to sell its LaPlace and Vinton Long Carbon facilities in the US to an affiliate of Black Diamond Capital Management.
·         The deal comes after reports of the Luxembourg-based steel maker being under debt which stood at $15.7 billion in the quarter ended December 2015.
Inox Wind acquires Sarayu Wind Power:
·         Wind energy solutions providerInox Wind Infrastructure Services Limited, has acquired Sarayu Wind Power (Kondapuram in Andhra Pradesh) Private Limited, with effect from March 25, 2016.
·         Noida based Inox Wind Limited conveyed to the Bombay Stock Exchange in a regulatory filing that it has acquired Sarayu Wind Power with effect from March 25.
US Navy ship discovered after 95 years:
·         The US Navy ship which went missing was discovered after 95 years at the San Francisco coast.
·         The USS Conestoga tug boat, which disappeared on March 25, 1921 after departing San Francisco on its way to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii has been found in 2016.
·         The wreckage was initially detected in 2009 at a depth of 189 feet (58 meters) by a NOAA survey team.
Indian Coast Guard to re-base ICGS Rajkamal, six interceptor boats:
·         The Indian Coast Guard re-based one ship and six boats from Chennai to Andaman and NicobarRegion to rebase the assets was taken to strengthen the maritime border operations in the region.
·         The rebasing plan is mainly intended towards enhancing the coastal security of the newly ICG stations that have been set up to for the effective optimization of the assets.
·         Among the assets that would find a new base are ICGS Rajkamal and six InterceptorBoats (C-407, C-412, C-414, C-416, C-417 and C-428).
·         These platforms are rebased to Andaman and Nicobar Region as part of the Coast Guard Headquarter rebasing plan, the newly commissioned ICGS Arnvesh has already joined the Eastern CG fleet as part of replacement.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
Medical device conducts 33 tests in 45 minutes:
·         Kanav Kahol, a 36-year-old biomedical engineer, has created a medical device named 'Swasthya Slate', which conducts up to 33 diagnostic tests in 45 minutes.
·         It consists of a digital thermometer, a blood pressure monitor, a heart rate sensor, an ECG system, a blood sugar monitor and a water quality unit. The slate sends results to a connected mobile or table.
Facebook tests feature to prevent fake accounts:
·         Facebook is testing a feature which automatically alerts a user if another user is impersonating the account using the same name and profile photo.
·         On detecting impersonation, Facebook will alert the user of potential risk and ask for verification. The feature, which Facebook started testing in November 2015, is now live on 75% of its accounts.
MIT develops system to eliminate traffic lights:
·         MIT researchers have recently developed a system that can help eliminate traffic lights, thus reducing waiting time and emissions.
·         The proposed system functions like the one used by air-traffic control, as every vehicle that approaches an intersection automatically requests access from the traffic system.
·         The vehicle then receives its assigned 'time slot' to pass through that intersection.
Amazon says it does not have a gender pay gap:
·         Amazon, said that its female employees earned as much as their male counterparts, according to a survey it recently conducted.
·         The company, which estimates that women made up 39% of its global workforce as of July, said a review of compensation found that women earned 99.9 cents for every dollar that men earned in the same jobs.

Mary Kom, Shiva get top seeding at Asian Olympic Qualifiers:
·         Olympic bronze-medallist M C Mary Kom (51kg) and World Championship bronze-winner Shiva Thapa (56kg) were given the top billing in the Asian Olympic Qualifying Tournament draw held in Qian’an, China.
·         Other Indians to be seeded were Commonwealth Games silver-medallist L Devendro Singh (4th in 49kg division) and Asian silver-medallist Vikas Krishan (2nd in 75kg category).

1. Govt To Create 2.5Lakh Dalit Entrepreneurs Under Stand Up India
i. The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the  Stand up India Start up India initiative in New Delhi in January. 

ii. The launch by the prime minister was done at the virtual exhibition and interaction with Startup entrepreneurs.
iii. At the inauguration of the 5th National Industrial & Trade Fair organised by Dalit Indian Chamber Commerce & Industry (DICCI) , Union Minister for MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) Kalraj Mishra has announced that, Under Stand-up India initiative, each of the 1.25 lakh bank branches would be encouraged to fund a SC/ST and woman entrepreneurs to create 2.5 lakh new entrepreneurs in the country.
iv. According to Mishra’s observation the availability of adequate credit was always been a major issue and his ministry has taken several initiatives to address the challenges .
v. The dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry has been encouraging and facilitating Dalit enterprise as a means of empowerment and has also ensured that the community contributes in the economy, and be the job givers, not job seekers.

2. ISRO Has Established GIRI Radar System In Andhra Pradesh
i. The Gadanki Ionospheric Radar Interferometer (GIRI) has been set up at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh by The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). 
ii. NARL is an autonomous research institute of the Department of Space.
iii. Gadanki Ionospheric Radar Interferometer System is a 30 MHz radar system that will be engaged in meteor and space weather research in a comprehensive way. 
iv. It consists of a rectangular antenna array of 160 two-element Yagi-antenna, arranged in a 20x8 matrix, 20 transmitter units, 6 digital receivers including data processing systems, a radar controller, and a host computer.
v. The main aim of GIRI is to carry out unattended observations towards studying the forcing from the sun like variation in solar flux, solar flare and magnetic storm on the ionospheric irregularities. 

3. Fourth unit of NTPC-Bihar govt owned 195-Mw plant synchronised
i. The 4th unit of 195-Mw Muzaffarpur Thermal Power Station (MTPS) has been successfully synchronised with the national grid.

ii. The plant is owned by Kanti Bijlee Utpadan Nigam Ltd, a joint venture between NTPC and Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd, in which the two companies have 64.57% and 35.43% shares. 
iii. First unit of 110 Mw at MTPS started generation in November, 2013, while the second unit of 110 Mw started generation in November, 2014, after successful renovation and modernisation work carried out by BHEL. Both the units, each of 110 Mw, had stopped generation in 2003.
iv. The plant, which is being constructed at the existing site of an old power plant, would draw water from the river Burhi Gandak. 
v. It would get coal supply from a coal block of Central Coalfield Ltd located in Jharkhand.

4. Mizoram, JICA Sign Pact for Promoting Sustainable Agriculture
i. The Mizoram government and Japanese International Cooperative Agency (JICA) signed an agreement on Capacity Enhancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Irrigation Development.
ii. The Memorandum of Understanding(MoUs) was signed by top officials of Agriculture, Minor Irrigation, Horticulture and Soil and Water Conservation departments in the presence of state chief secretary Lalmalsawma. 
iii. The Mizoram government and Japanese International Cooperative Agency (JICA) signed an agreement on Capacity Enhancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Irrigation Development.
iv. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by top officials of Agriculture, Minor Irrigation, Horticulture and Soil and Water Conservation departments in the presence of state chief secretary Lalmalsawma.

5. BHEL commissioned 600 MW Jaipur Thermal Power Plant in Telangana
i. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Maharatna central public sector enterprise, has successfully commissioned a 600 Mw coal-based thermal power plantin Telangana. 

ii. The company has built 600 Mw rating sets which comprise of a four cylinder turbine, designed in-house. With the commissioning of the unit, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has successfully diversified into the power generation business.
iii. The heavy engineering major had earlier commissioned a 600 Mw thermal power plant at Kakatiya in the state in last December.
iv. The company commissioned 85 per cent of the coal-based power stations in Telangana amounting to 5,180 Mw.
v. The state government has recently placed orders with the company for executing around 6,000 Mw of thermal power projects in the state on engineering procurement construction basis.

6. Andhra govt set to inaugurate country's first lift irrigation project
i. Andhra government which is known for its innovations and use of technologies in various sectors has also become the first Indian state to implement lift irrigation. 
ii. Andhra Pradesh government is all set to inaugurate Pattiseema lift irrigation project, described as the first river linking project in country, connecting Godavari with Krishna in this lower riparian state, as it has been completed in a record time of one year.
iii. The first pump of this Rs 1,300-crore project was installed and switched on in September, 2015, about six months after the project contract was awarded to Hyderabad-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) on condition to complete the entire project in one year.
iv. The project was designed to lift 80 tmc (trillion metric cubic feet) of flood water in a span of 110 days during the flooding season between July and October from Godavari as was permitted by the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal (GWDT) from the ongoing Polavaram Multi-purpose Irrigation Project.

7. Iran signs oil contract with France's Total
i. Iran signed a confidential oil agreement with France's Total to develope the South Azadegan oil field shared by Iran and Iraq, Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh said.

ii. Iran reached an agreement with the Japanese Inpex a decade ago to develop the oil field, however, the Japanese company quit the project as a result of US sanctions against Iran's energy sector because of the disputed nuclear issue. 
iii. Iran and the world powers clinched a nuclear deal in July last year which enables the country to re-engage with the world's energy giants to develop its oil and gas fields.

8. Pakistan and Iran agree to boost cooperation on security, trade
i. Iran and Pakistan have mutually agreed to boost bilateral cooperation on regional security and trade. 
ii. Decision in this regard was taken by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during intensive talks in Islamabad. 
iii. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is on official state visit to Pakistan and is the first visit by an Iranian head of state in 14 years. 
iv. Both the countries have agreed to fight extremist and terrorist groups in their countries’ shared border. They also announced the opening of two new crossing points to encourage trade long hampered by sanctions. 
v. The opening will contribute to economic integration in the region and also promote tourism and people to people contacts. 

9. Garry Shandling The Comedian And Actor Has Passed Away
i. Garry Shandling, the famous comedian who was best known for his faux docudrama and the show " it's Garry Shandling's " has passed away due to an apparent heart attack. He was 66 year old. 

ii. Mr. Shandling became a hero to a generation of comedians for his self aware comedy and groundbreaking shows. 
iii. He performed standup comedy and became a regular guest host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
iv. Shandling was born in Chicago and grew up in Arizona. He moved to Los Angeles in the early 1970s, beginning as an advertising copywriter before getting a job writing for the sitcom Sanford and Son.
v. It’s Garry Shandling’s Show first graced American TV sets in 1986 with the eponymous protagonist portraying a high-strung comedian whose love life was on the rocks. The Larry Sanders Show debuted in 1992, earning the comedian cult status and numerous awards. 

10. Actor Peter Brown passes away
i. Peter Brown, who had starring roles in two television westerns in the 1950s and ’60s and later acted in soap operas, has died at the age of 80 due to Parkinson’s disease.
ii. Mr. Brown played Deputy Johnny McKay on “Lawman,” which was seen on ABC from 1958 until 1962. His character was the wide-eyed but tough sidekick of Marshal Dan Troop, played by John Russell, tasked with bringing order to Laramie, Wyo.
iii. He was born Pierre Lind de Lappe in New York City on Oct. 5, 1935, and his name was changed when his mother remarried. He moved with his family to the West Coast when he was young. 
iv. Mr. Brown’s last acting credit came in 2005 when he returned to the western genre in the movie “Hell to Pay,” but his family said he continued to make appearances at collectors’ shows and western festivals.
