1. elicit verb प्रकाश में लाना
› to get or produce something, especially information or a reaction:
Have you managed to elicit a response from them yet?
The questionnaire was intended to elicit information on eating habits.
They were able to elicit the support of the public.


2. incumbent adjective  अवलंबी
› [before noun] officially having the named position:
The incumbent president faces problems which began many years before he took office.
be incumbent on/upon sb formal
› to be necessary for someone:
She felt it incumbent upon/on her to raise the subject at their meeting.



3. derail verb (PLAN) पटरी से उतरने
› [T] to prevent a plan or process from succeeding:
Renewed fighting threatens to derail the peace talks.

4. ramp-up noun गतिविधि  के स्तर में एक बड़ी वृद्धि:
› a large increase in activity or in the level of something:
They saw a ramp-up in orders.
As assemblers are needed to support the production ramp-up, the total number of jobs is expected to grow to around 20.



5. inimical adjective  विरोधी
› harmful or limiting:
Excessive managerial control is inimical to creative expression.



6. restraint noun संयम
› calm and controlled behaviour:
He showed admirable restraint, and refused to be provoked.
The security forces exercised (= used) great restraint by not responding to hostile attacks and threats.


7. surge verb  उछाल
<> to increase suddenly and strongly:
The company's profits have surged.
› to move quickly and powerfully:
An angry crowd surged through the gates of the president's palace.
A few metres before the end of the race, Jenkins surged into the lead.
› (of an emotion) to develop strongly and quickly:
She felt a wave of resentment surging (up) inside her.

spiral noun
› a shape made up of curves, each one above or wider than the one before:
A corkscrew is spiral-shaped.
downward spiral
> a situation in which a price, etc. becomes lower, or a situation gets worse and is difficult to control because one bad event causes another:
This year's downward spiral of house prices has depressed the market.
We must avoid the downward spiral in which unemployment leads to homelessness and then to crime.


9. condemn verb  निंदा
> to criticize something or someone strongly, usually for moral reasons:
The terrorist action has been condemned as an act of barbarism and cowardice.
The film was condemned for its sexism.




10.heighten verb   वृद्धि
› to increase or make something increase, especially an emotion or effect:
The strong police presence only heightened the tension among the crowd.
