He absented himself.yes,, when absent is used as verb then it takes reflexive pronoun,,,so no error in above sentence

I reconciled with him after the bitter argument.

HERE If reconcile means settlement or compromise..then we dont use reflexive pronoun..
so no error


He reconciled himself to the arrogant attitude of his boss.
here reconciled means accepting something even though you dont want to accept then reflexive pronoun will be used


so the rule is if the subject is receiver of the verb then we will use reflexive pronoun.

if there is subject after these two phrases then use second of the verb.
