1. Mission Bhagiratha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Mission Bhagiratha with an objective to provide safe drinking water to all.
The scheme is the brain child of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. It was launched by state Government at Komatibanda Village, Gajwel in Medak District of Telangana.

Key Facts
  • Mission Bhagiratha is a water grid project that aims to provide safe drinking water to all even to remotest places in Telangana.
  • Its objective is to provide 100 litres of clean drinking water per person in rural households and 150 litres per person in urban households.
  • Under it safe drinking water will be provided to about 25000 rural habitations and 67 urban habitations.
  • Apart from providing a sustainable and permanent solution to the drinking water woes, it also aims to rejuvenate more than 45000 water tanks.
Besides, Prime Minister also laid foundation stones for other important development projects in Telangana. It includes 1600 MW Thermal Power station of NTPC at Ramagundam, 1200 MW Thermal Power Station of Singareni Collieries in Adilabad district.

2.Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana,


The Odisha Government had launched Baristha Bunakar Sahayata Yojana, a special assistance scheme for elderly weavers.
The scheme was launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the occasion of the second National Handlooms Day (observed on 7th August).
Key Facts
  • The scheme aims at improving the financial condition of over 8,000 weavers in the state.
  • The beneficiary must have been worked in this field at least preceding 20 years.
  • Under it senior weavers above the age of 60 years would get a monthly pension of 500 rupees and those above 80 years would get 700 rupees.
  • The pension amounts would be directly sent to the beneficiaries bank accounts.


3. MAA (Mothers’ Absolute Affection),


The Union Government has launched MAA (Mothers’ Absolute Affection), a nation-wide breast feeding programme.
It was launched by Union Health Minister & Family Welfare J P Nadda along with Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit who is brand ambassador of this campaign.
Key Facts
  • MAA is an intensified programme of the Union Health Ministry that aims to enhance optimal breastfeeding practices in the country.
  • It seeks to create an enabling environment to ensure that mothers, husbands and families receive adequate information and support for promotion of breastfeeding.
  • It has been launched in an attempt to bring undiluted focus on promotion of breastfeeding and provision of counselling services for supporting breastfeeding through health systems.
  • The programme has been named ‘MAA’ to signify the support a lactating mother requires from family members and at health facilities to breastfeed successfully.
  • The chief components of the Programme are (i) Community awareness generation, (ii) Strengthening inter personal communication through ASHA, (iii) Skilled support for breastfeeding at Delivery points in Public health facilities, and (iv) Monitoring and Award/recognition.
  • The Union Health Ministry has allocated 30 crore rupees for the Programme and 4.3 lakh rupees for each district for implementing the various activities under MAA programme.
Importance of Breastfeeding
  • The practice of breastfeeding is one of the important natural interventions for child survival as it enhances immunity level in child and can greatly help to reduce the under-five mortality rate.
  • Around 20% newborn deaths and 13% under-five deaths can be prevented by breastfeeding. Besides, breastfeeding can prevent child deaths associated with Diarrhoea and Pneumonia.
  • Infants who are not breastfed are 15 times more likely to die from pneumonia and 11 times more to die from diarrhoea than children who are exclusively breastfed. Breastfed infant also have higher intelligence quotient.


4.first state in the country to approve sewage and waste water policy.



Rajasthan has become the first state in the country to approve sewage and waste water policy.
The first of its kind policy was approved by the State Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje in Jaipur.
Key Facts
  • Under this policy, all district headquarters, heritage cities, and cities in the state which have more than one lakh population will be included.
  • Waste water treated under it will be used in irrigation and agricultural work. The requirement of next 30 years will be covered in this poilcy.
  • It will be compulsory for every house in the state to connect with sewage system in those cities which have 100% sewage system in next five years.

5. DISHA is for what?

Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) for effective development and coordination of Central Government’s programme. It will be known as DISHA and first meeting will be held on August 13, 2016.
It will monitor the implementation of 28 schemes and programmes of Union Ministry of Rural Development and other Ministries to promote synergy and convergence for greater impact.
Key Facts
  • The main purpose of the DISHA is to coordinate with Central and State and local Panchayat Governments.
  • It has been created for effective coordination and development of Central Government’s programme for infrastructure development or Social and human resource development.
  • The Chairperson of the committee will be the senior most Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) elected from the district, nominated by the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
  • It will ensure the participation of people’s representative at all levels and successful implementation of flagship programme of central government.
Terms of references of DISHA
  • Ensure that all Central Government programmes are implemented in accordance with the guidelines.
  • Look into complaints and alleged irregularities received in the implementation of the programmes. In this regard it will have authority to summon and inspect any record.
  • Refer any matter for enquiry to the District Collector or CEO of the Zilla Panchayat and Project Director of DRDA (or Poverty Alleviation Unit).
  • Suggest suitable action to be taken in accordance with the rules which should be acted upon by District Collector or CEO within 30 days.
  • Closely review the flow of funds including the funds allocated, funds released by both Union Government and the State. It will also review utilization and unspent balances under each Scheme.


6.
 Pashudhan Bima Yojana


Haryana Government has launched Pashudhan Bima Yojana, an insurance cover scheme for cattle breeders in the state.
It was launched by Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, O. P. Dhankar in Jhajjar.
Key Facts
  • Pashudhan Bima Yojana will provide insurance cover to cattle breeders in the state at different premium rates for different animals.
  • Insurance cover will be provided at a premium of Rs 100 for cows, buffaloes, bulls, camels and at Rs 25 for sheep, goat and pig for a period of three years.
  • Under it, the insurance companies would give compensation in case of death of animal (cattle). The scheme is free of cost for cattle breeders from the scheduled castes.
  • The state Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department has set a target to cover one lakh cattle under Pashudhan Bima Yojana.

7.Himayat’ programme.

The Union Government has approved nearly 1,600 crore rupees for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) under skill development initiative ‘Himayat’ programme.
Under it, youths from both rural and urban areas of J&K would be imparted with training in various job-intensive vocational courses over the next three years.
Youths enrolled for this scheme will be given training for six-months, nine-months and one year job-oriented courses. They will be trained in and outside the state. A provision has been also kept for foreign placements as well.

About Himayat Scheme

  • Himayat is a placement linked skill development initiative for training and placement of 1 lakh youths from J&K in next 5 years. ‘Himayat’ is an Urdu word which means support.
  • Vision: Empower the youth of J&K by providing employment opportunities through vocational training programs. Accelerate social and economic development in J&K.
  • The scheme is part of the Skill Empowerment and Employment scheme of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
  • The project envisions support J&K youths by providing them vocational training linked to placement in various sectors like ITeS, Sales and Customer Service and Hospitality etc.

8.Sagarmala
The Union Cabinet has approved the incorporation of Sagarmala Development Company (SDC) to give a push to port-led economic development under ambitious Sagarmala project.
SDC will be incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013, with an initial authorized share capital of 1,000 crore rupees and a subscribed share capital of 90 Crore rupees.

About Sagarmala Development Company (SDC)

  • SDC will be under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Shipping.
  • It will provide equity support to the project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) and funding support to the residual projects under the Sagarmala Programme.
  • Implementation of the identified projects will be taken up mainly through private or PPP mode. It will also provide equity support for the project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs).
  • SDC will mainly identify port-led development projects and assist the project SPVs in project development and structuring activities, bidding out projects for private sector participation.
  • It will also put in place suitable risk management measures for strategic projects cutting across multiple States and Regions and obtaining requisite approvals and clearances.
  • SDC will also undertake the preparation of the detailed master plans for the Coastal Economic Zones (CEZs) identified as part of the NPP (National Perspective Plan).
  • SDC will provide a holistic framework for ensuring the integrated development of Indian maritime sector.
  • It will also manage the coastal community development scheme and fund coastal community development projects identified under the Sagarmala Programme.
  • SDC will raise long term capital as per project requirements by leveraging resources provided by Union Government and also from multi-lateral and bilateral funding agencies.

About Sagarmala Project

  • Union Government had launched Sagarmala Project with a view to achieve the broad objective of promoting port-led economic development in India.
  • The ambitious Project seeks to harness vast potential of India’s 7,500 km long coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways, and strategic location on key international maritime trade routes.
  • As part of it, a NPP for the comprehensive development of the coastline and maritime sector was prepared.
  • The NPP has identified more than 150 projects across the areas Port Connectivity Enhancement, of Port Modernization & New Port Development, Port-led Industrialization and Coastal Community Development.


9.Sovereign Gold Bonds
The fourth tranche of the Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) scheme opened for subscription.
SGB is government securities denominated in grams of gold. It offers an alternative to holding gold in physical form. The scheme was launched by the Union Government in October 2015.
Government has fixed 3,119 Rupees per gram as the issue price for the bond in this tranche. The scheme will be open till 22 July 2016.
Key Facts
  • The bond can be purchased from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
  • Besides, all Bank branches and select Post Offices and Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited will also issue it.
  • In this tranche minimum subscription has been reduced to 1 gram and maximum at 500 gram per person or institution. Earlier, the minimum denomination was 5 gram.
  • The SGB bonds can be converted into demat form and can be used as collateral for availing loans. Redemption of SGB bonds by an individual is exempted from capital gains tax.
  • SGB gives an interest of 2.75 per cent per annum and is payable every six months on initial investment.
  • Government will use the funds raised through these bonds as part of its market borrowing programme.
Background
  • Through this scheme Government aims to attract a large number of investors to curb the demand for physical gold, mainly imported in large quantities leading to draining the country’s foreign exchange.
  • Thus it will keep a lid on the country’s current account deficit as gold imports are the second-biggest constituent of the import bill after crude oil.
  • The first 3 tranches of SGB Scheme had attracted an investment of 1,318 crore rupees, equivalent to 4.9 tons of gold at the then prevailing prices.


10.Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

The Union Cabinet has given its approval for allocation of Twelve thousand crore rupees to Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).
The funds will be used to impart skill training to 60 lakh youths and certify skills of 40 lakh persons acquired non-formally.
It is the revamped version of the PMKVY, which includes a mechanism to revive the traditional Guru-Shishya approach to train youth with the help of local craftsmen and trade practitioners.
Key Facts
  • Under this scheme, skill training would be done based on industry led standards aligned to the National Skill Qualification Framework.
  • Besides catering to domestic skill needs, the scheme will also focus on skill training aligned to international standards for overseas employment in European and Gulf countries etc.
  • There will be scholarship for student undergoing training in high end job roles. Training centres will be categorised on the basis of their infrastructure and past performance.
  • Third party agencies will be also deployed to validate their training efforts and placement records.
  • Residential programmes will be promoted to youths from north-eastern States, Kashmir Valley, Leh region and Left-wing extremism-affected districts.

About Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana

  • PMKVY is the flagship outcome-based skill training scheme of the Union Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. It is skill certification and reward scheme.
  • Objective of the scheme is to enable and mobilize a large number of Indian youth to take up outcome based skill training and become employable and earn their livelihood.
  • Under the scheme, trainees who are successfully trained, assessed and certified in skill courses run by affiliated training providers will be provided with monetary reward

11.11.Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK

The Union Government has launched Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) portal (http://kvk.icar.gov.in). It was launched by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi.
The portal aims to provide information and advisory to the farmers and facilitate online monitoring of the KVK activities.
Features of Portal
  • Provides provisions for online monitoring of KVKs.
  • Reporting of major events of KVKs on regular basis and submission of monthly reports online.
  • Provide information on different services being provided by different KVKs.
  • Provide weather and market related information to the farmers and others.
  • Government’s forthcoming programmes will also be available on it.
  • It will help create awareness about various programmes and benefit farmers and youth in joining different training programmes being organized by KVKs.
  • Question and answer facility is available for the farmers on the portal. Agriculture related information of the districts is available.
  • Agricultural Officers and the farmers may register themselves and seek different informations related to KVKs.
The mandate of KVK is technology assessment and demonstration for its application and capacity development. At present there are 645 KVKs operational in the country.

12.Namami Gange

Union Government has launched various projects under Namami Gange programme for cleaning of river Ganga and its tributaries from Haridwar, Uttarakand.
It was launched by Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti. Besides, simultaneous projects were also launched at over 103 locations in seven states for cleaning of river Ganga and its tributaries from Gangotri to Howrah.
Key Facts
  • The Namami Gange Programme aims at cleaning the holy river and ensuring its unfettered flow. Union government has allocated Rs. 20,000 crore budget for it.
  • Under it, projects such as modernization and redevelopment of Ghats, crematoriums and other development activities will be undertaken.
  • Besides it will also undertake project for development of sewage infrastructure and treatment, tree plantation, afforestation, pilot drain project, interceptor drain project, trash skimmers and conservation of biodiversity.
  • The projects were launched simultaneously in five basin states of the river Ganga viz. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
  • Besides, projects were also launched in Delhi and Haryana through which Ganga’s largest tributary Yamuna passes.
  • In Uttar Pradesh alone total 112 projects were launched through this ambitious scheme. 47 projects were inaugurated at various locations in Uttrakhand.
  • 20 projects were inaugurated at various locations in West Bengal. 26 projects were inaugurated in Bihar.

About Namami Gange Programme (NGP)

  • Namami Gange Programme is an ambitious integrated Ganga Conservation Mission that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2015.
  • The programme integrates the efforts to clean and protect the Ganga River in a comprehensive manner.
  • Focus of Programme: Pollution abatement interventions by interception, diversion and treatment of wastewater through bio-remediation.
  • Appropriate in-situ treatment or use of innovative technologies such as effluent treatment plant (ETPs) and sewage treatment plants (STPs) for cleaning Ganga.
  • Besides, it also seeks to benefit vast population dependent on the river Ganaga in terms of job creation, improved livelihoods and health benefits.


13. National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)

The Union Cabinet has approved a National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) for providing apprenticeship training to over 50 lakh youngsters in order to create more jobs.
The Scheme has an outlay of 10,000 crore rupees and a target of training 50 lakh apprentices by 2019-20.
Key Feature of Scheme
  • It will be implemented by Director General of Training (DGT) under the aegis of Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
  • Union Government for the first time will provide financial incentives to the employers to engage apprentices.
  • Union Government will directly share 25% of the total stipend payable to an apprentice with employers.
  • In addition, Union Government will also support basic training which is considered an essential component of apprenticeship training.
  • Union Government will bear the 50% of the total expenditure incurred on providing basic training to an apprentice.
Comment
The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) seeks to catalyze the entire apprenticeship ecosystem in the country. It is expected to become one of the most powerful skill-delivery vehicle in the country and will offer a win-win situation for all stakeholders.
Background
  • Apprenticeship Training is considered as one of the most efficient and effictive way to develop skilled manpower for the country. It provides for an industry led, practice oriented, effective and efficient mode of formal training.
  • The NAPS has been framed to meet objective of National Policy of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, 2015 which focuses on apprenticeship as one of the key components for creating skilled manpower in India.

14.. Interest Subvention Scheme
The Union Cabinet has approved the Interest Subvention Scheme for farmers for the year 2016-17.  For this purpose Union Government has earmarked a sum of 18,276 Crore Rupees.
The scheme will help farmers getting short term crop loan payable within one year up to 3 lakhs Rupees at only 4% per annum.
Interest subvention for providing short term crop loan to farmers has been provided to Public Sector, Private Sector, Cooperative, Regional Rural banks and NABARD.
Key Features of Scheme
  • Union Government will provide interest subvention of 5% per annum to all farmers for short term crop loan up to 1 year for loan upto 3 lakhs rupees for year 2016-17.
  • Thus farmers will have to effectively pay only 4% as interest. In case they fail to repay loan in time they would be eligible for interest subvention of 2% as against 5% available above.
  • Union Government will provide an interest subvention of 2% i.e an effective interest rate of 7% for loans upto 6 months to give relief to small and marginal farmers who borrow at 9% for the post-harvest storage of their produce.
  • The interest subvention of 2% will be provided to Banks for the first year on the restructured amount in order to provide relief to the farmers affected by natural calamities.
What is Interest Subvention?
Interest subvention is a form of waiver of some percentage of interest on loan given to promote some particular industry and general public interest. This implies that with the subsidy in hand, the loan borrower has not to pay total interest on loan amount and the balance interest amount will be borne by the government.


15.National Green Highways Mission (NGHM),

The Union Government has launched National Green Highways Mission (NGHM), a plantation drive around 1500 km of National Highways.
It was launched by the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.
About National Green Highways Mission
  • NGHM was launched under the Green Highways Policy, 2015 to provide a holistic vision of developing eco-friendly and green National Highways.
  • The mission aims to provide a green canopy along 100,000 km of highways and create jobs for 1 million youth.
  • It has been initiated to engage corporates, Public Sector units, Government organizations and other institutions for developing green corridor along National Highways through plantation and allied activity on median, avenue and other available nearby land patches .
  • The funds for the mission will be met by Green Fund corpus which is 1 per cent of the total project cost set aside for plantation purposes
  • Potential: The afforestation across National Highways is expected to help in sequestering approximately 12 lakh metric ton carbon annually.
  • It will also generate jobs and can be a game-changer for agriculture and rural economy.
  • In future, the mission will be linked with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.
Besides, the minister also launched ‘Adopt a Green Highway’ Program, ‘Kisan Harit Rajmarg Yojana’ and National Green Highways Mission Mobile App.
Kisan Harit Rajmarg Yojana: It is a pilot scheme to extend green belt beyond the existing ‘Right of Way’ of highways. It seeks to engage farmers and also provide alternative livelihood option to the nearby communities.

16.Smart City Mission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Smart City Mission’ involving 83 projects from 20 different cities in the country.
The ambitious mission of Union Government was launched at function held at Pune’s Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex one year after it was announced.
Speaking at the launching function PM Narendra Modi asked people not to think urbanization as a problem but an opportunity.
He also stated that cities can fight poverty and it is necessary to strengthen their capacity to fight the poverty.
Key Facts
  • The Smart City Mission’ projects launched included 14 projects of Pune (Maharashtra) and 69 projects from 20 different shortlisted cities in the country to be implemented at a cost of 1,770 crore rupees.
  • These projects are related to water supply projects, sewage treatment plants, solid waste management under Swachh Bharat Mission and development of green and open spaces under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
  • It also includes housing projects for urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and area development and technology based pan-city solutions under Smart Cities Mission.
  • PM Modi also inaugurated ‘Make Your City SMART’ contest, aimed at involving citizens’ participation in designing smart cities.
  • ‘Smart Net Portal’ was also inaugurated by PM Modi. The portal enables the cities under different urban missions to share solutions and ideas for various issues during the implementation of various missions.


17 Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY)

The Union Cabinet has approved proposal of extending the deadline for implementing the Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY) by a year to March 31, 2017.
With this decision, states shall take over 75% of ailing DISCOM (Power Distribution companies) debt as on 30th September, 2015 by 31st March, 2017 by issuing Bonds.
It is considered as a significant step in realising the vision of proving 24X7 affordable and environment friendly Power for All.
This intervention will also lower the interest burden of debt and allow states, which could not join UDAY earlier to put DISCOMs reforms on accelerated path.

About Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana (UDAY)

  • The UDAY scheme aims at bringing ailing power discoms to a state of operational efficiency, with state governments taking over up to 75% of their respective debt and issuing sovereign bonds to pay back the lenders.
  • It is the most comprehensive power sector reform ever undertaken. It shall conceive permanently resolve all DISCOM problems in the past, present and future.
  • The scheme is for the operational and financial turnaround of DISCOMs, which are the weakest link in the power value chain. It provides a clear roadmap and opportunity to DISCOMs to become profitable till 2019.
  • Power is a concurrent subject and requires the active participation of the States. Though, the scheme is optional, several States/Union Territories have joined or agreed to join it.
  • Under this scheme the turnaround of DISCOMs will be made possible through (i) Improving operational efficiencies of DISCOMs, (ii) Reduction in the cost of power (iii) Enforcing financial discipline on DISCOMs through alignment with State finances.
  • So far, 19 states have given in principle approval to join the scheme, out of which 10 states have signed MoUs with the Union Government.

18. Swadesh Darshan Scheme

The Union Government has approved Ramayana and Krishna Circuits under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism.
These two tourism circuits were approved in the first meeting of National Committee on Ramayan Circuit and National Committee on Krishna Circuit chaired by Union Tourism and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma.
Key facts
  • Ramayana Circuit: Under it 11 tourist destinations spread across 6 states have been proposed. The covered destinations are:
  • Uttar Pradesh: Ayodhya, Shringhverpur Nandigram and Chitrakoot (ii) Bihar: Sitamarhi, Buxar and Darbhanga (iii) Telangana: Bhadrachalam (iv) Chattisgarh: Jagdalpur (v)Karnataka: Hampi (vi) Tamil Nadu:
  • Besides expert committee has suggested to include Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), Mahendragiri (Odisha), Nagpur and Nashik (Maharashtra) in the proposed circuit.
  • Krishna Circuit: Under it 12 destinations spread across 5 states have been proposed. The destinations covered are:
  • (i) Gujarat: Dwarka (ii) Rajasthan: Nathdwara, Jaipur and Sikar (iii) Uttar Pradesh:Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana, Gokul, Nandgaon and Govardhan (iv) Odisha:

About Swadesh Darshan Scheme

  • The Union Ministry of Tourism had launched the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in 2014-15 with an aim to develop theme based tourist circuits in the country.
  • These tourist circuits will be developed on the principles of high tourist value, competitiveness and sustainability in an integrated manner.
  • They will be developed by synergizing efforts to focus on concerns and needs of all stakeholders to enrich tourist experience and enhance employment opportunities.
  • Under this scheme, 13 thematic circuits have been identified for development. They are Buddhist Circuit, North-East India Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Desert Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Ramayana Circuit and Heritage Circuit.


19.Janani Sewa

The Union Ministry of Railways launched three passenger service initiatives viz. a Janani Sewa for mothers, optional catering in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains on a pilot basis and a children’s menu on trains.
These services were launched by Union Railways minister Suresh Prabhu on 8th June 2016 in New Delhi.
Key Facts
  • Janani Sewa: Under this scheme hot milk, hot water and baby food will be available at railway stations. Initially on pilot basis this scheme will be available at 25 railway stations including New Delhi, Howrah, Mumbai, Chennai, Surat and Lucknow.
  • Optional catering services project: It will be available only on the Secunderabad-Pune Shatabdi Express and Mumbai Central-Hazrat Nizammudin Rajdhani Express on a pilot basis for 45 days initially.
  • The catering charges would be deducted from the cost of the Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express ticket if a passenger opts out of the catering service.
  • Children’s menu on trains’ scheme: It seeks to make travel a happier experience for children. Under it, IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) will provide food items like french fries, noodles, burgers and meal combos through through its e-catering services.

20.20.Swachh Saathi

Bollywood actress Dia Mirza was named as the ambassador for Swachh Saathi (student internship) programme.
She was selected because she is an active campaigner and a youth icon for Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission which seeks to make country clean .
As the ambassador, she would interact with college and school students from across the country through awareness sessions, motivational videos and community cleaning activities.
She would mainly help the programme to reach out to more youngsters as it was aimed to make it youth led cleanliness movement.

About Swachh Saathi Programme

Swachh Saathi programme is a youth-based programme of Swachh Bharat Mission. Under it, more than 2000 interns will be enrolled to coordinate around 10000 schools across India. They also will ensure that all students in the schools across India take the pledge for Clean India.


21..ASMITA
The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD)  has decided to launch ASMITA, a student tracking system programme.
ASMITA is acronym for All School Monitoring Individual Tracing Analysis and shall be launched under Shala Asmita Yojana (SAY).
Key facts
  • SAY aims to track the educational journey of school students from Class I to Class XII across the 15 lakhs private and government schools in the country.
  • ASMITA will be an online database which will carry information of student attendance and enrolment, learning outcomes, mid-day meal service and infrastructural facilities among others.
  • Students will be tracked through their Aadhaar numbers and incase those not having unique number will be provided with it.

22.Smart Village program

Gujarat Government has launched Smart Village program to improve public facilities in the villages.
It was launched by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on the occasion of completion of two years of her Government.
Key facts
  • Under this programme, 300 villages will be selected for Smart Village program.
  • Villages will be shortlisted by the state-level committee consisting of experts on the basis of Gram Panchayat’s performance through a transparent process.
  • It seeks to make villages ‘smart’ on the lines of Smart Cities that will help them become self-reliant, clean and hygienic.
  • Toilets, cleanliness, drop-out rate in primary schools, malnutrition ratio, Anganwadi facilities, vaccination of children, ATVT services are some parameters on which village will be adjudged as ‘Smart Village’.
  • These villages will get 80 lakh to 2 crore rupees cash assistance from the state government to improve public facilities in the villages.
Besides, CM also felicitated Sarpanchs of villages from the state which have completed 100 percent toilet targets.



23 Green Passage scheme

Odisha Government has decided to launch Green Passage scheme for orphan students to ensure that they get free of cost higher education in the state.
A proposal of the higher education department in this regard, was approved by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
As per the scheme
  • Orphan students pursuing higher education (from Plus-II level) to post-graduation level, will no longer have to bear the education expenses.
  • Students pursuing higher education will be exempted of tuition fees, admission fee and laboratory fees for higher studies.
  • It will be applicable to all government, government aided, private colleges and universities. Students also will be provided free hostel facilities and food.
  • These educational institutions have to ensure that the orphan students are not charged in any form.


24 Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

The Union Government launched Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for providing free of cost LPG (cooking gas) connections to women from BPL Households.
It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Maldepur Morh, Ballia in Uttar Pradesh. The tagline for the scheme isSwachh Indhan, Behtar Jeevan.
Key facts
  • Under PMUY, each of the beneficiaries will receive monetary support of about 1,600 rupees to get a connection of cooking gas. It includes administrative cost, pressure regulator booklet and safety hose
  • The scheme seeks to empower women and protect their health by shifting them from traditional cooking based on unclean cooking fuels or on fossil fuels to clean cooking gas.
  • It is being implemented by Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It is for the first time this ministry is implementing a welfare scheme.
  • The identification of eligible BPL families will be made in consultation with the State Governments and the Union Territories.
  • It will be implemented over three years’ time frame namely in the FY 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19.


25.(UJALA).

The Union Government has launched National LED programme – Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA).
It was launched by Union Minister for State (IC) for Power, Coal and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Key facts
  • The UJALA scheme is being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of PSUs under the Union Ministry of Power.
  • It is LED based Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP). Under it, 3 crore LED Bulbs will be distributed in Madhya Pradesh in the next 6 months.
  • Under it, people of Madhya Pradesh will get subsidiesed 9W energy efficient LED bulbs by paying just 85 rupees per LED bulb.
  • The scheme will help reduce electricity bills of consumers, contribute to the energy security of India and also help in environment protection.
Background
The Scheme was launched as part of Union Government’s efforts to spread the message of energy efficiency in the country. LED bulbs have a very long life, almost 50 times more than ordinary bulbs, and 8-10 times that of CFLs, and therefore provide both energy and cost savings in the medium term. It will help in saving of energy around 24 crore units every year.

26. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan

The Union Government has merged Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) with the Khelo India Programme for development of sports.
The RGKA was a centrally sponsored scheme launched by then Congress-led UPA government in 2014.
Union Government also has merged two other sport projects launched by then UPA regime viz. Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) and National Sports Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS) under Khelo India.
Khelo India Programme is based on Gujarat Government’s model of Khel Mahakumbh. In it chools and colleges from different parts of the country participate in about 27 disciplines. Even the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) organises summer camps every year under this project.
Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan(RGKA)It was launched in place of erstwhile Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA). RGKA aimed at constructing sports complexes in each block and exclusively both for indoor and outdoor in different sports discipline for 5 years.
PYKKA: It was a rural sports initiative introduced by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to promote youth and social development through sports.


27. Beti Bachao Beti Padho

The Union Government has extended the Beti Bachao Beti Padho Scheme in additional 61 districts across 11 States and Union Territories with low Child Sex Ratio.
It was announced by the Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi while addressing the function in New Delhi.

About Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme

  • The scheme is designed to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio and related issues of disempowerment of women through a life cycle continuum.
  • The main objective is to prevent gender biased sex selective elimination by strict enforcement of laws with stringent punishment to violators.
  • It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2015 from Haryana in 100 districts of the country to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio.
  • The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD), is the nodal agency for the implementation of the scheme.
